What does the timed up and go test measure?

pros - applicable to every day life, easy to administer and understand.
cons - need a high baseline function to be able to complete the test, interrater reliability
how do you complete the timed up and go test?
place chair against the wall, measure 3m from the front chair leg and mark on the floor with tape. Ensure the patient is wearing their footwear and using walking aid. ‘When i say go, stand up from the chair, walk at your normal pace to the marked line, turn and walk back. Then sit back down on the chair.’
Record the time in seconds. Allow a trial run first.
How to describe to the patient why you are doing the test?
To test your mobility and to identify if you are at risk of falls.
