THORACIC Section 5: Adenocarcinoma In-Situ Spectrum Flashcards
Adenocarcinoma In-Situ Spectrum is formerly known as?
Bronchoalveolar CA
What are the two pre-invasive Subtypes?
Atypical Adenomatous Hyperplasia of the Lung (AAH)
and
Adenocarcinoma in Situ (ACIS)
The smaller (< 5mm) and more mild pre-invasive sub-type.
Usually a pure ground glass nodule.
Atypical Adenomatous Hyperplasia of the Lung (AAH)
Typically larger than AAH but < 3 cm. Although features
overlap with AAH, they tend to be more part-solid (rather
than pure ground glass)
Adenocarcinoma in situ (ACIS)
What are the two INVASIVE subtypes?
Minimally Invasive Adenocarcinoma (MIA)
and
Invasive Mucinous Adenocarcinoma
These are also < 3 cm. The distinction is that there is < 5
mm of stromal invasion ( > 5 mm will be called a lepidic
predominant adenocarcinoma).
Minimally Invasive Adenocarcinoma
(MIA)
This is what most people used to call BAC
(bronchoalveolar carcinoma).
Invasive Mucinous Adenocarcinoma
