Therapeutic Use/MOA: Antibiotics Flashcards
Therapeutic Use: Bactericidal
Mechanism of Action: Interfere with bacterial cell-wall synthesis
Penicillins
Therapeutic Use: Treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections caused by resistant organisms.
• Mechanism of Action: the piperacillin is a PCN antibiotic that inhibits cell wall synthesis (bactericidal) and tazobactam is a β-Lactamase Inhibitor that inactivates bacterial beta lactamase.
*This is a combination product with containing
both drugs.
Penicillin’s with a β-Lactamase Inhibitor
Therapeutic Use and Mechanism of Action: Same as Penicillin
Cephalosporins
Therapeutic Use: Bactericidal
Mechanism of Action: Inhibit bacterial cell wall synthesis
Fluoroquinolones; Aminoglycosides
