the formal defense of the Christian faith
apostasy
a biblical concept that generally refers to those who fall away from belief in God
apostle
apostle is basically a “sent one”, twelve whom Christ designated as “apostles”, along with the apostle Paul as one “abnoramally born”
appropriation
a general term used in theology to speak of the integration or application of an aspect of the Christian belief system into Christian practice
Thomas Aquinus
medieval Italian theologian, greatest influence is found in his Summa Theologica, one of his famous contributions was a thorough discussion of the Five Ways (proofs) for the existence of God
Arminianism
a system of theology founded on the thought of James Arminius, developed mainly as a response to Lutheran and especially Calvinist views on the doctrine of predestination, saw predestination as an unconditional action of God in electing individuals to salvation, predestination was based on God’s foreknowledge, salvation is freely chosen, it could also be freely lost
ascension
when Christ had finished His earthly ministry, He entered the presence of the Father
asceticism
the teaching that spirituality is attained through renunciation of physical pleasures and personal desires while concentrating on “spiritual” matters
assurance
the doctrine that teaches the possibility of Christians’ knowing that they are children of God
