Apologetics Study Guide 1 Flashcards
Apostle’s Creed
I believe in God the Father, Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only begotten Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontias Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father from thence He will come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost. I believe in the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
Classical
combo of evidential and evidential, working from certain undeniable principles (presupp) to prove that God exists through theistic arguments and archaeological evidence (evid)
Evidential
defending Christianity through historical evidence, proving God’s existence
Presuppositional
in order to minister to an unbeliever, that unbeliever must believe/have a foundation of truth based on the Bible (must have certain presuppositions) “if person does not believe in the truth of the Bible, you cannot minister to them because they do not have the same foundations as you”
Fideistic
apologetics will be accomplished through faith with no fallen man’s reason, God will open the heart of the unbeliever if He wishes
Which approach do we recommend and why?
classical, we argue from both the Bible and historical/rational evidence to prove God’s existence with certain presuppositions
2 things presupp and evid agree on
image of God damaged in man, unregenerate will: able to receive salvation only through holy spirit
2 things presupp and evid disagree on
apologetics and evangelism, no distinction in evid, distinction in presupp, unregenerate mind: evid: able to perceive spiritual truth, presupp: unable “

Quote 2 Cor. 5:11, 14-15
Therefore, knowing the fear of the Lord, we persuade others. But what we are is known to God, and I hope it is known also to your conscience…For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, that those who live might no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised.
Paraphrase Matthew 22 and explain why this will keep us doing what we do.
Love God/love people. Foundation for our lives, have to keep this in mind when ministering, when we love God, everything else falls into place (obedience to love people no matter what when we love Him)
