Q

What is it about the Trinity that does not allow it to be illustrated?

A

In the example of the man, the Trinity is described as the husband, son, and father. This is an example of modalism (1 person, 3 roles/perspectives). In the example of the apple, the Trinity is described as the skin, the meat, and the seeds. This is an example of polytheism (multiple dieties). These examples imply the need of each other to make up the whole, like the apple needs the skin to be an apple. However, the Holy Spirit alone is God. He does not require the Son or the Father to be God.
