How did support for Henry Tudor grow?
R3 was victorious against the Rebels BUT it only promoted Henry Tudor and had serious consequences
many rebel leaders fled to Henry’s side in Brittany
such as the marquess of Dorset and the Earl of Salisbury and Exeter
significant Gentry also fled abroad strengthening Henry’s position
this elevated Henry on the political scale which was a danger to R3 rule
How much support did Richard have from the nobility?
although many didn’t join B, they also didn’t support Richard
the rest of the nobility remained distant adding to the uncertainty of R3 reign
Richard’s power based of nobility was slim and he couldn’t safely rely on his most powerful allies like Buckingham
Who were the overmighty subjects?
Lord Stanley and Northumberland were over mighty subjects that couldn’t be destroyed or replaced so Richard could only hope for their support
Richard had to gain support elsewhere by distributing land and offices which had mixed outcomes
What happened to the rebels who weren’t able to flee?
Some Rebels weren’t unable to flee and were attainted for treason in January 1484
The leaders were stripped of their land and positions of authority, which left a dangerous political vacuum in the south of England
What changes did R3 make to Southern England’s administration?
Richard became reliant on support from the North and gave people from the North, land and offices in the south even before the attainder had been passed
this was unprecedented and highly illegal

Sir Stanley was granted Buckingham’s Estates on the 12th of November 1483
didn’t take into account the rights of Widows and their heirs
Why was it significant that Richard placed his supporters in the south?
Richard putting supporters in the south shows he’s aware of the instability of his position despite crushing the Rebellion
this escalated after the act of attainder in January 1484
Richard thought it would strengthen his position but it backfired

the community of the Shrine meant the Gentry deeply resented intrusion
and putting Nobles from the North to the South with a deep affront to the Gentry and insured complete loss of any sympathy for R3
Small uprisings continued in the south which weakened Richard’s position
