Henry Tudor didn’t have a tenuous claim to the throne and before 1483 he was in no position to even consider claiming it
he had been living in Brittany with his uncle, Jasper Tudor since 1471
He was protected by DoBritanny who saw his value as a bargaining chip in diplomatic relationships between England, France and Brittany

he was supported by Margaret Beaufort and her husband Lord Stanley

he was now the biggest rival to the Crown and his position had to be negated by Richard in order to stabilise his authority

Richard wanted to secure Henry’s return to England and control him
Richard sent an embassy to Brittany in July 1483
however, Henry was a valuable pawn to the Duke of Brittany in his relations with both England and France and he would not give Henry up easily
