What was the crisis of the Yorkist succession in 1483
The crisis of the Yorkist succession in 1483 was purely the making of the Yorkist party as they faced no outside threat
divisions in the party had been created by the actions of E4 who gave excessive favour to Elizabeth and the Woodville family
the Woodvilles had exclusive control over Edward Sons
Edward Prince of Wales and Richard Duke of York
What did Gloucester Fear?
In the North Edward also increased the power of his brother Gloucester who held estates and power at unprecedented levels
Gloucester feared a royal minority dominated by the Woodville family
However, he was not the only one who hated the Woodville’s as seen with the Duke of Buckingham and Lord Hastings
the existence of these rivalries made it possible for Gloucester to seize the throne in July 1483

Gloucester and Buckingham arrested rivers and took Edward V into their custody
What happened on the 19th of May?
by the 19th of May Gloucester was declared Lord Protector and moved Edward V to the Tower of London
What happened in June 1483?
Lord Hastings + River was charged with treason + executed
→ 25th June = Parliament declared E4’s marriage to Elizabeth Woodville was invalid
+ Gloucester was the rightful King.
