Buckingham’s rebellion was in Octber 1483
it was led by Buckingham, Richards most loyal ally
the primary motivation of the rebellion was the outrage of R3 treatment of the Prince’s
Who was behind the Rebellion?
after rumours of The Prince’s death Margaret Beaufort and Queen Elizabeth plotted to put Henry Tudor on the throne on the condition he married E4 daughter
Margaret Beaufort was Buckinghams’ aunt + HT mum
the rebellion was led by those loyal to the Yorkists but they were prepared to turn to a traditional Lancastrian demonstrating their discount with R3 reign
What was the plan?
they made plans for Buckingham to raise a rebellion in South Wales
and persuaded Henry to come to England and stake his claim
the revolt in Wales was planned to link with the Invasion from Brittany so timing was crucial
What actually happens?
however, the plot was leaked and Richard was able to prepare
Norfolk was placed in charge of London and Richard went to meet Buckingham
the Swift Royal preparation meant the Rebels couldn’t wait for Henry to land
so they began their uprisings across Wales on the 18th of October
What happened to Buckingham?
Richard attacked Buckingham who was deserted by the Welsh troops
Buckingham went into hiding that he was betrayed and executed at Salisbury on the 2nd November 1483
Richard occupied Exeter and London with safe thanks to Norfolk
What’s happened to Henry Tudor and the rebels?
Henry’s fleet was scattered by Storm and arrived late so he returned home
the Rebels were discouraged by Buckingham’s death and Henry’s abilities so they dispersed
