What does soil air occupy?
The spaces between the particles and is readily displaced by soil water

What is soil water obtained from?
Mainly rainfall (or when people water the soil, probably)
Where is the soil water held?
It is held in a thin film around the soil particles
What happens to additional water?
It drains away
The smaller the soil particles….?
The larger is their total surface area and the more water is held
What does soil water contain?
dissolved chemicals that have been produced by weathering and decomposition.
What is there a constant motion of?
soluble chemicals, from the soil into the solution, and from the solution into plants.

When does leaching occur?
When chemicals and mineral salts are washed out from the soil by rain. As the rainwater passes through the soil, these substances drain out with the water
