- To feel things precisely
- To feel the shape of objects
- To know how much pressure to apply when picking up objects
- It prevents damage from sharp/hot objects

A
The highger the density of receptors the greater the accuracy

Why don’t all areas of the body need a very fine discrimination of touch?
A
Because some areas would be too painful to use and your whole body would be more vulnerable to pain
The discrimination would not be used in some areas
