Living Organisms Flashcards
What are the seven characteristics of a living organism?
Movement Respiration Sensitivity Nutrition Excretion Reproduction Growth
What is a plant?
A multicellular organism that contain chloroplasts and are able to carry out photosynthesis.
What do plants store?
Carbohydrates such as starch or sucrose.
What is an animal?
A multicellular organism that carries out respiration.
Why do animals often store?
Carbohydrates such as glycogen.
What is a fungus?
An organism that is not able to carry out photosynthesis.
They have cell walls made of chitin.
They feed by saprotrophic nutrition.
What might a fungus store?
Carbohydrates such as glycogen.
What is a bacteria?
A microscopic single celled organism. They have a cell wall, cell membrane, cytoplasm and plasmids. Does not have a nucleus.
What is a protoctist?
A microscopic single celled organism. Some have chloroplasts while others have similar features to an animal cell.
What are viruses?
Particles smaller than bacteria that are parasitic and can reproduce only inside living cells.
What are the eight life processes which are common to most living things?
Require nutrition Excrete waste Move Grow and develop Respire Respond to stimuli Reproduce Control their internal conditions
