The sign test Flashcards
1
Q
When would someone use the sign test?
A
When looking for a difference, repeated measures design and nominal data
2
Q
What are the 6 steps to work out the significance of the sign test?
A
1- Is the hypothesis one or two tailed?
2- workout the sign for each difference (+ or -)
3- Calculate value of S (the lowest number of occurring signs (if there are 3 +’s and 10 -‘s, S=3))
4- Calculate value of N (number of scores, discount the nil scores)
5- Find critical value (use the table)
6- Determine whether the results are significant (usually if the calculated S value is equal to or less than the critical value)
7- Report the conclusion
