Analysis and interpretation of correlation Flashcards
1
Q
Correlation AO3:
A
- No manipulation of IV so more appropriate when studying socially sensitive information
- Difficult to establish cause and effect relationship, can’t say for sure if the effect is the only cause
- Misinterpretations- correlations can often be exaggerated or misinterpreted by the media and society
2
Q
What is a correlation coefficient?
A
The value that is result of a correlation stat test telling us how strong or weak a correlation is. It looks at the direction and strength ranging from -1 to +1
3
Q
What would be a +1 correlation?
A
A perfect positive correlation
4
Q
What would be a -1 correlation?
A
A perfect negative correlation
5
Q
What would be a +0.3 correlation?
A
A weak positive correlation
6
Q
Why are +-0.8 correlations important?
A
They demonstrate strong correlations. It is the magic correlation coefficient number to remember, as it means we are confident that there is a relationship between the variables
