Q

What is the SWASH

A

As the wave reaches the shore it breaks. This is the SWASH

It is the white foamy water that flows UP towards the beach

Q

What are constructive waves

COMPOSITION

A

Strong SWASH- transports and deposits material on beach

WEAK BACKWASH- does not carry much material back to sea

As a result they construct/add material to the beach

Q

Destructive waves

COMPOSITION

A

WEAK SWASH

VERY STRONG BACKWASH- wears away and carries away material from beach

Therefore there is a lot of erosion and they destroy/destruct the coastline

9
Q

Air compression

A

The waves trap air in cracks in the rocks. As the waves retreat the trapped air expands quickly and can crack the rock

Q

Abrasion

A

This is when small rocks carried in the seas load are hitting against the coastline

Q

What does the sea provide us with

EXPLAINQ

A

The sea provides us with many things
For example it provides us with energy such as wind and tidal energy. This energy is renewable and good for the planet. It can also provide us with energy such as gas and oil which isn’t renewable and not great for the planet

It can provide us with leisure. For example water sports such as sailing and other leisure activities such as having a picnic and sunbathing

It can be a good transport route to transport people and goods. For example ferries can sail over the sea with passengers and cargo ships can sail over the sea to transport manufacturing goods easily and cheaply

Another thing the sea provides us with is food such as fish and crabs.

17
Q

What are the negative effects of what the sea proviðs us with

A

The non renewable energy that we use from the sea will eventually run out and it also can cause pollution

When on the beach people having picnics/sunbathing could leave behind rubbish creating not only an eye-sore but can also cause pollution

The sea provides us with food but this food will eventually run out if fish stocks are not managed properly. To prove that this there is conservation boxes which people cannot fish in

Ships transporting goods can pollute the sea by oil spillage s that can also deflect fish stock

18
Q

What have people made to control the power of the sea

A

Gabions
Sea walls
Groynes
Boulders
