How are igneous rocks formed
They are formed as a results of volcanic activity. Hot molten lava. Obols into solid rock on the earths surface or deep underground
How are sedimentary rocks made
They are formed from the particles of rocks dead plants and animals. They are deposited on the side or beds of seas and lakes and build up over time to be compressed into layers of solid rock
How are metamorphic rocks made
The are formed from rocks that already exist. Igneous or sedimentary rocks are changed into new harder rocks by great heat or pressure

What does sandstone look like
Red/brown in colour
How I sandstone made
When lots of sand is worn away from the earths crust. This sand is carried away by the wind and rivers. They are deposited in the sea or in a dessert where the layers build up over time. The layers become compressed and cemented together to form sandstone. It is found in mountains in Munster
How is limestone made
Formed on the beds of shallow warm seas from the skeletons of tiny sea creatures fish and shells. These pile up over millions of years. The particles were compressed and cemented together.

How is granite formed
When magma cools very slowly deep in the earths crust.

When lava from a volcano cools quickly on the earths surface.

It varies in colour from white to grey and is laid down in strata.
What is limestone used for
Many public buildings are made from limestone
Farmers use limestone to improve soil fertility

It is an extremely hard rock made mainly from quartz p. It is made from sandstone which was changed by great heat or pressure
How is marble formed
Marble is formed from limestone. It is a very hard rock that can be cut and polished. It is found in Connemara and Cork

To make slates for roofs, billiard and snooker tables
