What is the RICS governance structure?
- The RICS is bound by it’s Royal Charter
- It is Governed by various internal councils, boards and associations.
- The governing council has 21 members and runs the RICS, providing management and strategic direction.
- The regulatory board, Management board and various committees report to the Governing Council.
However, the governance of the RICS was scrutinised within Alison Levitt’s report and The Bichard Review and since then, the RICS has agreed to restructure it’s governance.
What is the role of the RICS?
- To maintain the highest levels of education and training
- To protect consumers through strict regulation of professional standards
- To be a leading source of information and independent advice on land, property, construction and environmental issues.

What has changed since the Bichard review?
The management structure of the RICS has been changed with two new boards set up, the Standards and Regulation Board and the Management Board. A new Regulatory Tribunal reports to the Standards and Regulation Board.
