Surveying safely 2018

This guidance note sets out basic, good practice for the management of Health & Safety for RICS members and Firms.

RICS Firms are obliged to maintain:
- A safe working environment
- Safe work equipment
- Safe systems of work
- Competent staff

A “safe person” means each individual assumes individual behavioural responsibility for their own, their colleagues and others’ health & safety while at work.

Working at Height - Avoid whenever possible. Work at Height regulations 2005. Includes:
- Regulation 4 states that work at height is properly planned, supervised and carried out safely as possible.
- Regulation 5 requires employers to ensure that persons working at height are competent to do so.
- Reg 6 Avoid work at height where it is possible.

Asbestos:

2 types of Asbestos survey:
Asbestos Management survey - locate, assess and advise on management (no samples)
Refurbishment/demolition survey - Samples taken and analysed and recommendations made for management.

Duty holder is the owner if the property is vacant or the tenant if let.
