What did Henry do with the Clergy at the beginning of the reformation?
Accused of praemunire in 1530 and pardoned them in 1531 if they accepted Henry as the ‘Supreme head of the church, so far as christ allows’
What and when was the first Act of annates?
1532- banned payments of annates to rome
How does Henry legitimise the reformation?
brings laws through acts which uses parliament
What and when was the Act in restraint of appeals to Rome?
1533- cannot ask rome for help and use the church court system
What and when was the Act of succession?
1534- Henry and Anne’s children were given succession over Mary. It was treason to deny their marriage
What Henry’s three main targets against the church?
Authority, money, reputation

1535- survey of wealth in monastic lands and checked behaviour

1536- monasteries under £200 1539- all remaining monasteries
What and when was the Royal injunctions?
1538- all parishes needed to have an English bible within 2 years and relics should be removed

What and when was the Act of 6 articles?
1539- goes back to catholic beliefs, transubstantiation, hearing confession and banned the marriage of priests
Why were people dissatisfied with the church?
Indulgences (forgiveness purchased), Hunnes case
What was the Hunnes case?
Richard Hunne was a london merchant who refused to pay the usual mortuary fee to the church when his child died. Found hanged in the bishop of london’s prison. London jury returned verdict of murder, with bishop of london as an accomplice. Parliament took up the case, and wolsey had to kneel before parliament begging for forgiveness as a representative of the church 1514
