civilian conservation corps
what was the CCC aimed at?
Young unmarried men age 18-25 who signed up for 6 months at a time for mostly environmental projects in national parks eg planting trees + maintaining beaches
how much money did people get for CCC?
$30 per month and many sent $25 back to families (mostly not spent due to lack of confidence)
how many people were helped by the CCC?
2.5 million people
very costly for taxpayers
republicans thought it was too much help and auntie rugged rugged individualism
what was TVA?
Tennessee Valley authority
what would happen in Tennessee Valley?
was a place of flooding in the winter and drought in the summer
what did the TVA do?
series of dams built on the Tennessee river to irrigate (supply water and help growth) land, Control water flow and to provide jobs building
what were the dams for the Tennessee Valley used for?
hydroelectricity e.g. the Fontana Dam
what was the reaction of the dams built in Tennessee Valley?
very unpopular with small electricity companies as the TVA was so big and powerful that they could not compete and were put out of business
what was the EBA?
emergency banking act
what did the EBA do firstly?
all banks were closed down until they had been checked by a government official
what was the result of the EBA?
5000 trust worthy banks reopened and regulations imposed to stop reckless speculation (theory with no evidence)
in the EBA, what was the FDIC?
Federal deposit insurance Corporation
what did FDIC do?
insure deposits up to $5000
what was the downside to the EBA?
some small banks weren’t allowed to reopen which again was seen as too much government interference
what was the downside to EBA?
FDIC
FDIC didn’t help wealthy people because deposit insurance was small (if the bank failed)

used to government money to build schools, dams ,bridges and airports

quotas and modernisation were contradictory because farmers killed animals and destroyed crops because they were told even though some Americans were starving
