Q

How do receptors work?

A

1) When they sense a stimulus, they send electrical impulses along the sensory neurons to the CNS.
2) The CNS then sends electrical impulses to an effector along the motor neuron.
3) The effector responds accordingly

Q

Why is the nervous system able to produce rapid responses?

A

The neurons transmit information using high-speed electrical impulses.

Q

What are synapses and what do they do?

A

1) Synapses are the connections between 2 neurons.
2) The nerve signal is transferred by chemicals called neurotransmitters which move across the gap.
3) These chemicals can then set off a new electrical signal into the next neurons.
