Marxism was seen as simple but had some valid points.
When interactionism was introduced, it made more sense to combine the two.

What is the context behind New Criminology?
Developed in the 70s when poverty, inequality & blame culture was prevalent.
What are the 4 criticisms of New Criminology?
Marxists - it’s not as concerned with inequality as traditional marxists.
Left Realists - if crime is justified, it makes it seem less serious. It often involves 2 working-class parties, so there's no Robin Hood figures who commit crime to help others.
Marxist feminists - dismisses patriarchy.
Feminists - malestream sociology.
