The major descending motor pathways for movement Flashcards
The lateral pathway structure
the lateral pathway originate in the cortex
composed of 3 tracts- lateral corticospinal, corticobulbar, and rubrospinal tracts
the lateral pathway function
controls voluntary independent limb movements
lateral corticospinal tract
lateral corticospinal tract= axons of cortical neurons that terminate in the grey matter of the spinal cord which stem from the primary motor cortex, Responsible for control of arms, hands, fingers, legs, toes (Known as trunk movements)
corticobulbar tract=
corticobulbar= control movement of the face, neck, tongue, and parts of our eye muscle
rubrospinal tract
Rubrospinal= originates in the red nucleus to control movement of forearms and hands.
