Brocas and Wernickes aphasia Flashcards
deficits in Borcas- agrammatism
difficulty in using grammatical constructions but also word order to decode sentences
so effects structure in a sentence
deficits in Brocas - Anomia
difficulties in findings words especially function words
deficits in Brocas- articulation
mispronounciations, often alter the sequences of sounds
other aspects to Brocas-
damage to the motor central areas of the left hemisphere may result in poor writing and other motor impairments
find using function words difficult
what is conduction aphasia
poor speech repetition
due to damage in parietal lobe in the brain
they have intact auditory comprehension and speech production
wernickes deficits= spoken word recognition
recognition is perceptual, you can recognise a word without knowing its meaning. damage to recognition is called pure word deafness and is caused by damage to the left temporal lobe
wernickes deficits- language comprehension
failure to comprehend meaning of words or express thoughts in meaningful speech
caused by damage to the posterior language area
this area links to transcortical sensory aphasia= people can repeat words so recognise words but dont know the meaning of the words they are repeating
wernickes deficits-converting thoughts into words
meaning of word is defined by a particular memory it is assocated with, stored in the brin regions of the association cortex
difficulty converting thoughts into words= fluent aphasia
