movement- sensory feedback and spinal chord Flashcards
what do muscle spindles do?
they are fibrous capsules containing specialised muscle fibres to detect change in muscle length.
they contain thick myelinated 1 a axons
they are responsible in making the muscle contract via these detections in length to keep the 1a axons in working range so it wants to keep muscle length in control and does this via contraction
what do the Golgi tendon organs do?
these are located at the junction of a muscle and a tendon
they contain innervated 1b sensory axons.
They monitor the muscle tension- too much muscle tension means the golgi tendon will inhibit the muscle from creating mote force (preventing injury) and causing inhibition
what type of reflexes are there in the spinal chord?
monosynaptic= definition reflex that provides direct communication via sensory and motor neuron within the muscle consisting of only one synapse. Its purpose is to react as fast as possible to a stimulus to minimize harm
polysynaptic reflex- more than one synapse- involves one or more interneuron.
