Auditory pathways Flashcards
auditory nerves=
3000 afferent nerve fibres, these are tonotopically organised.
fibres innervating IHC at low frequencies are near centre of the nerve
fibres innervating IHC at high frequencies are near the periphery of the nerve
how is the auditory cortex arranged?
hierarchy
CORE REGION= Primary a1 auditory cortex
BELT REGION= first level of auditory association cortex
PARABELT REGION= highest level of auditory association cortex
so, auditory cortex moves sound from lower to higher level association areas
what is the what pathway?
ventral stream= anterior parabelt moves to anterior temporal lobe
what is the where pathway?
dorsal stream= posterior parabelt moves to posterior parietal cortex
