A
  1. voice is converted into signals and sent to primary auditory cortex
  2. sent to wernickes area for comprehension
  3. sent to accurate fassiculus

Q

explain brain activity when reading aloud

A
  1. the visual representation of the word is sent to the primary visual cortex
  2. info is transmitted to the angular gyrus for auditory signal
  3. then sent to wernickes for comprehension

Q

language comprehension

A

brain works like a dictionary
audio and visual= when we hear a familiar word we can look them up and understand them

when we hear the start of a word many signals/units in the brains cortex are activated.

our brain registers multiple possible meanings before the whole word is processed.

content is very important- quicker comprehension

recognition point= when understanding one word the units that are active will suppress the activity of other units saving time.

Q

how are words stored?

A

new words are initially stored in the hippocampus well away from the main store of words in the cortex. meaning they don’t share neurons with other words

then over multiple nights of sleep the new words gradually transfer over and integrate with the old ones. this gradual process ensures no mix up
