The Lungs Flashcards
Explain what happens when you breathe in
1) When you breathe in, the air is taken down the trachea. This splits into two tubes called the bronchi when then splits into smaller tubes called bronchioles. These end at the alveoli where gas exchange takes place
2) The blood that has just returned from the rest of the body has a lot of carbon dioxide and little oxygen. So the oxygen is then diffused out of the alveolus and into the blood and the carbon dioxide is diffused out of the blood and into the alveolus.
3) When the blood reaches the body cells, blood is diffused out of the red blood cells and into the body cells and the carbon dioxide is diffused out of the body cells and into the red blood cells then carried back to the lungs
