Q

How are arteries adapted

A
  • the walls are strong and elastic as the blood gets pumped out at a high pressure
  • The walls are thick compared to the lumen
  • contain thick layers of muscle to make them strong
  • they have elastic fibres which allow them to stretch and spring back

Q

How are capillaries adapted

A
  • tiny and carry blood really close to every cell to exchange substances with them
  • have permeable walls so substances can diffuse in and out
  • They supply food and water and take out co2
  • Their walls are only one cell thick to increase the rate of diffusion

Q

How are veins adapted

A
  • have thinner walls than arteries as the blood is pumped out a lower pressure
  • The lumen is bigger to help the blood flow
  • they have valves to help the blood flow in the right direction
