The Knee Muscles Flashcards
What flexes the knee
Semitendonosus, semimembranosus, biceps femoris,
What extends the knee
Vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, vastus imtermedius, rectus femoris
What assists knee flexion
Gracilis, sartorius, plantaris, popliteus
Lateral rotators of the knee
Biceps femoris
Medial rotators of the knee
Semitendonosus, semimembranosus, sartorius, popliteus
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of semitendonosus
Origins: ischial tuberosity
Insertions: medial surface of proximal tibia
Nerve supply: sciatic nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of biceps femoris
Origins: long head- ischial tuberosity, short head lat lip linea aspera and supracondylar ridge of femur
Insertions: head of fibula and lateral tibia condyle
Nerve supply: sciatic nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply semimembranosus
Origins: ischial tuberosity
Insertions: post surface of medial tibial condyle
Nerve supply: sciatic
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of rectus femoris
Origins: long head AIIS, short head: ilium above acetabulum
Insertions: quadriceps tendon
Nerve supply: femoral nerve
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of vastus lateralis
Origins: lat intertrochanteric line, lateral pectineal line, lat lip of linea aspera, lateral margin of gluteal tuberosity
Insertions: lateral border of patella
Nerve supply: femoral nerve
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of vastus medialis
Origins: medial lip of linea aspera, medial aspect of intertrochanteric line, medial supracondylar line
Insertions: medial border of patella
Nerve supply: femoral nerve
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of vastus intermedius
Origins: femur, upper 2/3 anterior and lateral surfaces
Insertions: quadriceps tendon, lat border of patella
Nerve supply: femoral nerve
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of sartorius
Origins: ASIS
Insertions: anterior surface of proximal tibia infromedial to tibia tuberosity
Nerve supply: femoral nerve
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of gracilis
Origins: inferior pubic ramus
Insertions: medial surface, proximal shaft of tibia
Nerve supply: obturator nerve
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of gastroc
Origins: medial head comes from medial femoral condyle, lateral head comes from lateral femoral condyle
Insertions: tendocalcaneus
Nerve supply: tibial nerve
