Shoulder Girdle Muscles Flashcards
What elevates the shoulder girdle
Levator scapula, trapezius (upper)
What protracts the shoulder girdle
Pec minor, serratus anterior
What depresses the shoulder girdle
Subclavius, trapezius (lower)
What retracts the shoulder girdle
The rhomboids, trapezius (mid)
What medially rotates the shoulder girdle
Serratus anterior, trapezius (upper and lower fibres)
What laterally rotates the shoulder girdle
Pec minor, levator scapula, the rhomboids
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of trapezius
Origins: superior Nuchal line, ligament nuchae, Occipital protuberance of occipital bone, spinous processes C7- T12, supraspinous ligament
Insertions: 1/3 of acromion
Nerve supply: motor accessor (XI) cranial nerve sensory
Origins, insertions, and nerve supply of levator scapula
Origins: transverse processes C1-T12
Insertions: medial border of scapula
Nerve supply: dorsal scapula nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of the rhomboids
Origins- C7- T1 spinous processes and supraspinous ligament
Insertions- medial border inferior to scapula spine
Nerve supply- dorsal scapula nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of serratus anterior
Origins: outer surface of ribs 8 and 9
Insertions: costal surface medial border of scapula
Nerve supply: long thoracic nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of pec minor
Origins: anterior chest wall of ribs 3 and 4 and their costal cartilages
Insertions: coracoid process of scapula
Nerve supply: median pectoral nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of subclavius
Origins: costochondral junction of 1st rib
Insertions: inferior aspect of clavicle
Nerve supply: subclavian nerve
