Foot Muscles Flashcards
Which muscles plantar flex the foot (ankle joint) the first 3 are in the superficial anterior compartment, supplied by tibial nerve except peroneus which are supplied by superficial peroneal nerve, gastroc and soleus insert into tendocalcaneus
Gastroc, soleus, plantaris, peroneus longus and brevis
Which muscles assist plantar flexion (posterior compartment), supplied by tibial nerve, Tom and dick come from tibia, Harry comes from fibula
Tom dick and Harry, Tibialis posterior, flexor hallucis longus, flexor digitorum longus
Which muscles dorsiflex the foot (anterior compartment) supplied by deep peroneal nerve all come from fibula except TIBIALIS ANTERIOR AS IN THE NAME IT COMES FROM TIBIA
Tibialis anterior , extensor hallucis longus, peroneus tertius, extensor digitorum longus
What muscles evert the foot (lateral compartment), peroneus longus and brevis come from lat fib, tertius comes from mid fib
Peroneus tertius, peroneus longus, peroneus brevis
What muscles invert the foot, both come from tibia
Tibialis posterior and Tibialis anterior
Origins, insertions and nerve supply of gastrocnemius
Origins- medial head comes from medial epicondyle of femur
Lateral head comes from lateral epicondyle
Insertions- tendoncalcaneus, and posterior surface of calcaneus
Nerve supply is the tibial nerve
What are the origin, insertion, nerve supply of the soleus
Origins- soleal line, post surface of tibia and fibula
Insertion- tendocalcaneus, posterior surface of calcaneus
Nerve supply- tibial nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of plantaris
Origins- supracondylar line and head of gastroc
Insertions- medial border of talus
Nerve supply- tibial nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of peroneus longus, lat fib(1st MT)
Origins: lat tibial condyle, lateral side of fibula head
Insertions: base of 1st metatarsal and medial cuneiform
Nerve supply: superficial peroneal nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of peroneus brevis, lat fib,(5th MT)
Origins: lateral surface 2/3 of fibula
Insertions: tubercle on lateral side of the base of 5th metatarsal
Nerve supply: superficial peroneal nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of TIBIALIS posterior, so come from tibia and interosseous membrane
Origins: proximal posterior surface of tibia and adjacent interosseous membrane
Insertions: tubercle on medial side of navicular
Nerve supply: tibial nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of flexor hallucis longus, (GREAT TOE), fibula and interosseous membrane
Origins: lower 2/3 of fibula and interosseous membrane
Insertions: plantar surface of distal phalanx of great toe
Nerve supply: tibial nerved
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of Flexor digitorum longus (DISTAL PHALANGES) and tibia
Origins: medial aspect, proximal surface of tibia
Insertions: 4 tendons to plantar aspect of the bases of the distal phalanges
Nerve supply: tibial nerve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of Tibialis anterior, (TIBIALIS SO FROM TIBIA), 1st MT
Origins: upper 1/3 of lateral surface of tibia and adjacent interosseous membrane
Insertions: medial surface of medial cuneiform of and base of 1st metatarsal
Nerve supply: deep peroneal merve
What are the origins, insertions and nerve supply of extensor digitorum longus, (DISTAL PHALANGES), fib and interosseous membrane
Origins: upper 2/3 anterior surface of fibula, upper part of interosseous membrane, tibial condyle
Insertions: extensor hood, base of middle and distal phalanges of toes
Nerve supply: deep peroneal nerve
