Joints And Muscles Flashcards
What’s a joint
A site where two or more bones are joined together, whether or not movement occurs between them
What’s a fibrous joint
Held together by fibrous connective tissue, E.G sutures in the skull
What are the two types of cartilaginous joint
Symphysis
Synchrondrosis
What’s a synchrondrosis joint
Held together by hyaline, no joint cavity
What’s a symphysis joint
Secondary cartilaginous joint, flat disc of fibrocartilage between bones , E.G a pubic symphysis
What’s a synovial joint

Typical features of synovial joints
Articular cartilage, synovial membrane, ligaments, synovial sheafs, fat pads, muscles and tendons
What’s a ball and socket joint
E.G the hip and shoulder, ball convex, socket concave, 3 planes of movement
