the importance of plants Flashcards
what do almost all living things depend on?
plants
what do plants capture?
the suns energy
where does almost all energy of the earth come from?
the sun
why do plants use the suns energy?
to make food (glucose) during photosynthesis
what can they use the food for?
they can build ‘organic molecules’, things like, carbohydrates and proteins which become the plants cells
what part of the plant can only carry photosynthesis?
algae (seaweeds) and some bacteria
what do plants do?
release oxygen and take in carbon dioxide
what can all living things do?
respire
what do plants and animals do when they carry out aerobic respiration?
they take in oxygen from the atmosphere and release carbon dioxide
what happens when plants photosynthesise?
they do the opposite - they release oxygen and take in carbon dioxide
what happens in respiration?
oxygen in = carbon dioxide out
what happens in photosynthesis?
carbon dioxide = oxygen out
