gas exchange Flashcards
what are the parts of the reproductive system?
trachea, bronchus, bronchiole, alveoli, rib and diaphragm
What is the trachea?
windpipe
what is the bronchus?
branches
what is a bronchiole?
the mini branches attached to the bronchus
what is a alveoli?
air sacks where aerobic respiration happens
what is the rib?
Intercostal muscles, when they contract, they pull the ribs up. when they relax, the ribs move down
what is the diaphragm?
a muscle. it moves up when it relaxes and down when it contracts.
what is breathing?
a process of getting air in and out of the lungs
what happens when you breathe in?
the external intercostal muscles pull the ribs up and the diaphragm moves down
what happens when you breathe out?
the diaphragm moves up and the external intercostal muscles relax, another term for this is called expiration
what else happens when you breathe in?
air goes down the trachea, through the bronchi, through the bronchioles and into the small air sacks called alveoli, that’s where gas exchange happens
