Diffusion Flashcards
What do animal and plant cells need to survive and what are their waste products?
animal and plant cells need oxygen to survive, whereas, one of their waste products which they don’t need is carbon dioxide
What is a cell membrane and what does it do?
a cell membrane has little holes in it so small molecules can go through it
what is diffusion?
diffusion is when a substance moves from a high concentration to a low concentration through the cell membrane
what do cells need for aerobic respiration?
oxygen
what does the blood carry in a human body?
oxygen and glucose
why do the cells use up the oxygen and glucose in the body?
so the concentration becomes higher than in the cells
what happens when oxygen and glucose diffuse out of the blood?
they go into the cells
what waste product do cells produce that they need to get rid off?
carbon dioxide
what is the carbon dioxide concentration in the cells?
its higher than the blood cells flowing around them
what happens when carbon dioxide diffuses out of the blood cells and into the blood?
the blood then carry’s it into the lungs and then it will be breathed out
what is it called when plants take in carbon dioxide to make food for the leaves and the plant?
photosynthesis
is the concentration of carbon dioxide higher outside of a leaf than the air spaces inside the leaf?
YES
how does carbon dioxide move into a leaf?
diffusion
what happens when it diffuses?
the plants cells are diffused and able to do photosynthesis
