the heart- cardiac cycle Flashcards
what is heart relaxation known as
diastole
decribe the process of diastole
blood enter atria and ventricles from pulmonary vein and vena cava
semi lunar valves close
left and right atrioventricular valves open
ventricles and atria relax and fill with blood
what are the other two process in a heart beat that involve contraction
atrial systole
ventricular systole
describe the process of atrial systole
atria contract pushing blood through bicuspid valve into ventricle
semilunar valves closed
describe the process of ventricular systole
semi lunar valves opne
ventricles contract and blood moves out of heart
how are the ventricles adapted for their function
have thicker walls - harder push
what is pressure difference in the right ventricle compared to the left
right ventricle pressure is lower
why is the right ventricle pressure lower
becuse the left ventricle has to pump blood further. e.g to the brain where as the right ventricle only has to pump blood to the lungs which doesnt require much strength
