blood enters the atrium and ventricles from pulmanory veins and vena cava this is when the heart is relaxed - in diastole
then atria contract during atrial systole and blood is forced through the atria ventricular valves and down into the ventricles.
atria relax and ventricles contract during ventricular systole pushing blood away from the heart and into the aorta
