ELISA test Flashcards
what is the first stage of the elisa test
hiv antigen bound to the bottom of a well
what is the second stage of the elisa test
specific sample from paitent is added e.g blood. if paitent has hiv the hiv antibodies will bind to hiv antigen in the well. thes well is then washed to remove unbound antibodieswh
what is the third satge of the elisa test
second antibodie added wich binds to primary antibodie well washed out again to remove any secondary antibodies
what is the fourth step in the elisa test
substrate added to well that can bind to enzyme on secondary antibody. if solution changes colour paitent has hiv antibodies in their blood so has hiv
what is the process of the ELISA test for hiv
hiv antigen is added to a well in a well plate
sample of blood is added
if this contains hiv the hiv antibodies will bind to hiv antigen
solution is washed to remove excess
secondary antibodie is added this will bind to primary antibodie
solution washed agian to remove excess secondary antibodie
solution added to the well. solution contains substrate wich will bind with enzymes of secondary antibodie. if they brind their will be a change in colour.
if their is a change in colour hiv antibodies present so person has hiv
define a monoclonal antibodie
antibodies created and released from a plasma cell
