The Heart Flashcards
Which animals do not have a double circulatory system ?
Fishes
Which side of the heart , In a double circulatory system, receives deoxygenated blood?
The right side of the heart
Which side of the heart receives oxygenated blood and by which “tube”?
Left side of the heart
By the pulmonary vein
Vein brings blood to the heart
What is the job of the left side of the heart?
To receive oxygenated blood (from the pulmonary vein)
And send of oxygenated blood to the rest of the body at a high pressure (by the AORTA)
What is the job of the right side of the heart?
To receive deoxygenated blood (from the VENA CAVA)
To send of deoxygenated blood to the LUNGS (by the PULMONARY ARTERY)
Name everything that the right side of the heart contains. In detail.
Describe what is their role.
Right side contains-
Vena cava -
receives deoxygenated blood
Pulmonary artery-
sends deoxygenated blood away from the heart, to the lungs.
Right atrium
Right ventricle
Tricuspid valve- a valve (a gate) to stop the right atriums blood to get into the ventricle
Semilunar valve- a valve (a gate) to stop the ventricle’s blood to go through the pulmonary vein where it will be sent of to the lungs.
Name everything that the right side of the heart contains. In detail.
Explain each of their roles.
Aorta-
Where oxygenated blood is being send to the rest of the body
Pulmonary vein -
Where the oxygenated blood is coming from (goes in the left atrium)
Left atrium
Left ventricle
Bicuspid valve- A valve (a gate) that stops the atrium's blood going in the ventricle
Semilunar valve- A valve (a gate) that stop ventricle blood from going to the aorta and away to the body
Which ventricle had a thicker wall?
The left ventricle
Why does the left ventricle have a thicker muscle than the right one ?
In order to have enough strength to pump the blood at a higher pressure.
This is because the blood will go all around the body , and high pressure is required
Which valves stop back flow ? Name them
All of them-
Bicuspid
Tricuspid
Semilunar
