Q

How can desirable characteristics of animals be an advantage of cloning?

A

To produce medicine

  • animals that can produce medicine in their milk could be developed by genetic engineering first, once the animal’s medicine is satisfying, it can be cloned.
  • some animal’s organs (pigs) are suitable for transplantation surgery, this could be genetically engineered and cloned. (Human donors is in short supply, this could help) - viruses can spread from animal to humans though

Q

How can producing human embryos from adult body cells by cloning be an advantage?

A

The embryos could be used to supply stem cells for stem cell therapy

Stem cells will have exactly the same genetic information as the patient and rude the risk of rejection (unlike transplants)

Q

What are the risks of cloning?

A

Evidence that cloned animals are not as healthy as normal animals

Cloning is removed to science- we are not aware of all consequences, could be dangerous

Q

Human cloning is possible, but what are the ethical issues? (Moral issues to be considered about)

A

A high rate of miscarriage and stillbirth (born without any signs of life)

Could be unhealthy and die prematurely

It will be psychologically damaged (knowing the fact that they are a clone)
