The Hall Technique Revision Questions Flashcards
What is the hall technique
Process of cementing a stainless steel crown on primary molars without LA, caries removal or tooth prep
It manipulates the tooth environement by sealing it into the tooth, sperating it from the substances it would normally recieve from the host’s diet
What is the safety percautions for the hall technique
Place child in upright position
use gauze and secure down with a elastoplast
When is the hall technique suitable?
No clincal or radiographic signs of pulpal involment
tooth should have sufficient sound tissue left to retain the crown
What are minor failures of the hall technique
New secondary caries
filling/crown worn, lost or requirin other interventions
Restoration lost but tooth restorable
Reverisble pulpitis treated without needed pulptomy or XLA
Major failures of hall technique
Irreversible pulpitits
Abscess requiiring pulpotmy or XLA
Interradicular radiolucency
Filling lost and tooth unrestorable
What are seperators
If contacts between teeth are a problem
See patient 3-5days later for removal
Where does caries begin?
Base of the fissures and just below the contact point of proximal surfaces
What is the clincial evidence to confirm the caries has been arrested
colour changes to dark brown/black and hard to probe
Advantages
no LA required
requires minimal tooth prep
non invasive and quick
Indications
sufficent amount of sound tooth tissue
no radiographical sign of pulpal involvement (asymptomatic tooth)
