A
Desistising
Water tolerant
Adherent
Sets in presence of saliva

How does topical fluoride work in 3 ways?
A
- slows down the development of carious lesion by stopping demineralisation
- makes the enamel more resistant to acid attack and speeds up remineralisation
- stops bacterial metabolism (caries inhibiting)

What advice do you give to patient after application
A
Avoid eating and drinking for 1 hour
Eat soft foods for the rest of the day
Brush teeth as normal at night
Do not take fluoride supplement on that day
It can make teeth look yellow and it wears off when eating and when they brush their teeth

What are contraindications for fluoride varinsh
A
ulcerative gingivitis stomatitis allergy to elastoplast severe asthma cases senstive to colophony (present in cosmetics, adhesives, toliteries)
