Pulpotomy/Pulpectomy Revision Questions Flashcards
What are indications for pulp treatment?
good co-operation medical history precludes XLA missing permanenet sucessor over riding necessity to preserve the tooth child <9yrs
What are contraindications for pulp treatment?
poor co-operation poor dental attendance cardiac defect multiple grossly carious teeth advanced root resorption severe/recurrent pain or infection
What is the aim of pulpectomy?
To prevent/control infection by extirpation of radicular pulp following by cleaning and obturation of canals
Irreversible pulpitis
What is a vital pulptomy
carious or trauamtic exposure of a bleeding pulp
the radicular pulp is preserved and the bleeding is controlled
What is pulp capping
small exposure, less than 24 hrs old
- arrest heamorrhage with pressure
- Ca(OH)2 placed directly over the exposure site
- dressing/definitive resotration
What does survival of the pulp depend on?
Associated periodontal ligament injury
Extent of exposed pulp
Age of patient (open vs closed apex)
What are uses of calcium hydroixde?
Used to induce calcific barrier following pulpotomy procedures
Induces barrier formation at apex of non vital immature permanent incisors (apxification)
Useful for decreasing microbial load in non-vital mature permanent teeth
