What is a fissure sealant?
A protective plastic coating used to seal fissures and pits to prevent food and bacteria getting caught in them and causing decay
What is the material used for fissue sealants?

What are indications for fissure sealants
children deemed at high risk of caries
medically compromised children
children with learing difficulties
children with physical and mental disabilities
When do you review fissure sealants
every 4-6months - high risk= 6months, moderate risk = 12months, low risk = 24 months
After placement of fissure sealant what do you check?
Check no air blows
Check no material has gone interproximally - remove with floss
Check no excess material distal to the tooth on the soft tissues (flash)
Check for non adherance
What are the indications for glass ionomer fissure sealants?
Where good moisutre control cannot be achieved
Where there is a high degree of sensititvity due to developmental or heriediatry enamel defects
Useful as release fluoride but poorly retained and require regular application
