The Gospel of John: Essay Question Flashcards
Using only the Gospel of John, respond to the Jehovah’s Witness view that Jesus is a created being and not God.
“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” John 1:1. This verse states that the Word, Jesus, was with God from the very beginning. John 1:3 explains that “All things were made through [Jesus], and without him was not anything made that was made.”
Respond to the notion that the Holy Spirit is a force, not a person. Explain how the Gospel of John is Trinitarian.
The Holy Spirit is not a force. It is a physical thing. It is not like the force on Star Wars. The Holy Spirit is a physical thing that lives inside of us once we accept the Gospel and helps us see the right thing to do. The Gospel of John explains that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are of one substance with the Father. In John 30:10, Jesus says, “I and the Father are one.”
