How did Athanasius describe the divine dilemma caused by man’s fall?
Man lost connection with God after the fall because we deserved death, but God would not allow us to perish in sin. God is a just God, though, and he has the right to punish us for our sins. It is just. But, at the same time, we are made in His image, and He doesn’t want us to suffer. The solution to this is Christ: he comes in to save us from suffering in our sin.
What did the incarnate Son of God do on earth in His human body?
He was the one and only perfect being who ever has and ever will live on this earth. His most perfect act was dying on the cross: A painful, perfect death. He lived a perfect life, died on the cross, then rose from the dead. He perfectly obeyed and taught the law.
