The Gospel of John and Jordan B. Peterson Biblical series youtube. Also Story of Gnostics. Flashcards
- What is so unique about the Gospel of John?
- This is the only gospel that the autographs state that Jesus is divine. In the synoptic gospels, he never made that claim in the autographs. It was interpolated decades and centuries later to make the claim more real.
- It is the latest written gospel, written 95 years after Jesus was born. Yet it claims to have first person quotations like the author was really there.
- It is the plan “B” gospel. The Apocalypse was preached as coming from 200 BCE to 150 CE. When Jesus said his disciples would live to see it, but it never came. So the powers that be formed the gospel of John changing over 4,000 years of God’s kingdom coming to stay here on Earth to now you die and go to heaven or hell. LIke God suddenly changed his divine plan for mankind.
- The storyline of John follows the popular play, Bacchae. Including protagonist is an unrecognized deity. The goal of the deity is to alleviate man’s suffering and this through wine.
- What else is directly from the Greek play Bacchae?
- Being dressed in humiliating garments.
- Being led out of the city to a cursed hill.
- Being killed on that hill.
- Both Jesus and Dionysus have miraculous powers.
- A great earthquake occurs
- Jesus turns wate into wine just like Dionysus.
- Jesus is brought before Pilate for questioning and answers in riddles just like Dionysus did when questioned by the governor, Pentheus.
- Intentionally blank placeholder for John.
- Biblical series 1: Introduction to the Idea of God. Jordan B. Peterson
[MN: Some salient excerpts from his youtube video. The other parts of the series were mostly just rambling ideas and nothing to put in Brainscape.]
- Introduction to the idea of God. [MN: from all my studies, in my opinion, Gods are a psychological by product of the human brain. Like the Archaelogist stated, every known civilization of man has invented their own God.]
With Freud and Jung, you really start to understand that there are things inside you that are happening that control you instead of the other way around. 31:31.
33: 00 Nations can get caught up in collective dreams. That is what happened to the Nazis. [MN: Example, manifest Destiny with the United States. Take land by force if they wouldn’t sell it to you.]
35: 01 “I like to have an explanation for things that’s rational and empirical before I look for any kind of explanation.”
100: 45 “We know in psychotherapy that you are much better off to confront your fears head on than you are to wait and let them find you.”
Break your fears into little pieces and then encounter them one by one and master them.
1:07:14 “I believe that people are collections of sub-personalities, and that those sub-personalities are alive.”
1:20:25 People are broadcasting information at you all the time about how you need to INTERPRET the world so they can toleerate being around you. And you need that because socially isolated, yoou go insane, then you are dead. No one can tolerate being alone for any length of time.
We cannot maintain our own sanity without continual feedback from other people because its too complicated.
1:26:20 “I’m a practical person. Having to believe a collectionof books like the Bible, you are called upon to believe things that no one can believe. And that is not good because that’s a form of a lie, as far as I can tell. If you have to start your pursuit of truth by swallowing a bunch of lies, then how in the world are you going to get anywhere with that?”
” It has to make sense, rationally. I do not want it preaching what we know to be scientifically untrue. If it isn’t working with evolutionary theory for example, then I think that its not a good enough solution.”
1: 31 The Biblical Earth was viewed as a covered dome. No idea it was round. The Bible is a collection of books with multiple redactors and editors.
2: 00:00 Q & A. The Bible is like the internet. So many opinions, so many strong feelings one way or the other. Nobody in control makes it a chaos. [This is MN on a question that was asked with someone from the audience prefacing his question.]
- Ref: “Jesus Mysteries”
[MN: Theme: “You don’t know about the 400 year war between the Gnostic Christians and the Literal Christians.”]
P. 89. Literalist Christians became the Catholic Church
Gnostic Christians thought mystical “knowledge” or Gnosis [Esoteric]. Gnosticism is used in Hellenistic religions and philosophies.
[MN: Since Gnosis was from Hellenism and considered of the Devil by Literalist, I think this is where the word Hell came from]
Gnostics
From Gnostics point of view, it was the literalist who distorted true Christianity. They created a religion that required BLIND faith in spiritual theology as if it were historically true.
Gnostics practiced the Inner mysteries (spiritual) for themselves and became a Christ by doing this. This was their plan for salvation.
Literalist practiced the outer mysteries and were considered “People in a hurry” type religion. [MN: They didn’t have to do any work in research or meditation. They just had to believe everything that was told to them. That is why the Gnostics called them the “People in a hurry”.
P. 96. Pagan mysteries contained inner (Esoteric) and outer mysteries. Both Gnostic and Literalist came out of the two divided mysteries. [MN: 400 year theology civil war until Literal became the Law! This occured in the 4th century, same time as New Testament came out.]
Then, the Catholic church became the only religion allowed.
Literalist
- Selected four gospels and burned over one hundred of other gospels because they thought other gospels were of the devil. P. 89.
- Had the viewpoint that Gnosticism confused the original teaching of Jesus with Pagan doctrines. For 2,000 years it destroyed all Gnostic evidence until Gnoostics were finally eliminated.
- In 1945 a Gnostic library was discovered in an Egyptian cave. Only then the modern world learned about Gnostics.
- Gnostics were so erased from history that we only learned about them from other detractors and oppressors. P. 89.
- P. 98. Gnostics Had a secret gospel of Mark that had to remain hidden from those who were mentally blind.
Gnostics. Repurposed and renamed theological events from Pagan beliefs. Being raised from the dead is an allegory for spiritual rebirth. On the other hand Literalist believed the dead body was actually resurrected! P. 99. [MN: This brings us to how we believe today in Christianity. It came from ancient Pagan beliefs, Gnostics believed body resurrection was an Allegory** for rebirth and Literalist believed the body really **would actually be resurrected. In the 4th century it became the Roman Law everyone had to be a Literalist and the Gnostics were eliminated completely plus all their gospels and works burned during the Dark Ages.]
Gnostics believed the Soul will reincarnate over and over until it reaches Gnosis and is saved. P. 104.
