What is the function of the Cornea?
- Protects the eye
- Transparent covering
What is the function of the Sclera?
- To protect and support
- White part of the eye
What is the function of the Retina?
- Detects light rays
- Layer of sensitive cells at the back of the eye
What is the function of the Choroid?
- Provides nutrients to the eye
- Black pigment
- Layer of blood vessels
What is the function of the Iris?
- A ring of muscle
- Coloured part of the eye
- Controls amount of light entering
What is the function of the Pupil?
- The hole in the iris
- Allows light to enter eye
What is the function of the Lens?
- Focuses light onto retina to focus on objects
- Transparent
- Can be moved by ciliary muscles
What is the function of the Ciliary Body?
- Produces aqueous humor
- Alters shape of the lens
What is the function of the Vitreous Humor?
- Provides eye with shape
- Located behind lens
What is the function of the Aqueous Humor?
- Keeps eye rounded in shape
- Provides nutrients
- Located behind cornea
What is the function of the Lateral Rectus Muscle?
- Helps move pupil away from centre of body (away from nose)
What is the function of the Medial Rectus Muscle?
- Helps move pupil towards centre of body (towards nose)
What is the function of the Fovea?
- Small dimple in retina
- Full of cone cells to give sharp vision
What is the function of the Optic Disc?
- Blind spot where optic nerves leave the eye
What is the function of the Optic Nerve?
- Bundle of fibres
- Sends information from retina to brain
